Matthias started his professional career as a freelance journalist and founded a business consulting and branding firm in the late `90s. After the first dot-com bubble burst, he and his companies faced very hard times. He eventually achieved a successful turnaround and now these tough experiences have become an invaluable asset for much of his current work.
Over the past 15 years, Matthias has served as an executive trainer, coach, and consultant. He has worked with startups, well-established SMEs, famous figures, and global corporations (such as DAIMLER, KPMG, etc.). As an entrepreneur himself, Matthias also has extensive experience in building up, restructuring, investing in, and growing companies in diverse industries such as media and education, manufacturing, and high tech. Currently, he is engaged in various businesses and research projects that focus on human and organizational learning and performance. Matthias serves as a speaker and lecturer for entrepreneurship, media management, coaching, and leadership skills at various universities, both in Europe and the US. He has authored several books and multiple articles for well-known newspapers, magazines, and journals.
The academic world has always been a passion of his. Matthias has studied public administration, media psychology, law, media science, and art history at the universities of Konstanz, Messina, Barcelona, Newton (Boston), and Munich. He holds a master of administration studies (M.A.S.) from the University of Konstanz, a master in media psychology (M.A.) from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP), a PhD in law (Dr. iur.), and another PhD in art history (Dr. phil.) from the University of Munich. He is an alumnus of both IESE Business School`s AMP and Columbia Business School`s CIBE programs as well as a founding fellow of the Institute of Coaching (ICPA) at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Matthias has attended the Columbia Coaching Certification Program (CCCP), IESE`s International Faculty Program (IFP), and holds numerous certifications in training, coaching, and consulting (Certified Management Consultant (CMC), NBI, MBTI, HOGAN Assessments, etc.). He coaches and consults in English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish.
Much of Matthias’ academic and professional work deals with the question of how individuals and organizations learn and how knowledge and behavior change can be made sustainable. One of his interests is the role of “soft factors” (e.g. stories, images, or emotions) for human, organizational, and brand performance. He is currently co-heading a research project that focuses on how entrepreneurs and leaders in the Silicon Valley and other areas have overcome challenges and what they have learned from their setbacks and successes.
Matthias’ clients and business partners especially appreciate his entrepreneurial background, his excellent network, and his experience in turning even challenging situations to their benefit. Individuals and companies also hire him because of his expertise in professional training, his valuable insight from the academic world, and his empathy and passion to help them discover and reach their true potential.
